Position Title:             Administrative Assistant I
Department:                Land Use Department
Supervisor:                 Land Use Administrative Officer
Hours:                         25 hours per week (Schedule varies)

Union Position – Labor Grade D Classification ( This position is affiliated with Council 94 and classified as a Grade D. Step 1 starts at $14.88 per hour. Upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period, a step increase is possible). Single Benefits Eligible

Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Windows version), including Word  and Excel; experience maintaining organized electronic and paper files; excellent customer service skills, including ability to work collaboratively with staff and consultants.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Willingness to work as part of a team. Ability to be flexible and courteous. Expected to keep a neat appearance.

Position Purpose: Perform clerical and administrative duties for the Land Use Administrative Officer.  Provide individuals with the necessary procedural information and materials for Zoning, Planning, Historic District and Conservation Commission. Understanding of the Town Ordinances, Zoning Ordinances, Land Development and Subdivision regulations needed. Provide primary administrative and clerical support to the Land Use Administrative Officer. Serve as Clerk for Conservation and Historic District Commissions. May clerk other Land Use Boards.  A general understanding and working knowledge of how each Board or Commission operates and their respective duties. Execute procedures and maintain detailed records to ensure vendor compliance with the Town’s ordinance. Schedule to be determined by the Land Use Administrative Officer. Assistance with application procedure, preparation of agenda, attendance of monthly and special meeting, monthly work sessions. Preparation of monthly minutes, packets and distribution of decisions and advisories. Night meetings are required. In the absence of the Land Use Administrative Officer assume added responsibilities. Work in conjunction with members of the Building Department.

Job Qualifications:

Education:   High School diploma or equivalent.

Special Job Requirements:   Understanding of legal aspects of Town Ordinances.
