Position Title:      Circulation Clerk
Supervisor:          Circulation Supervisor
Hours:                  20 hours per week -  including weekend hours

Union Position – Labor Grade C Classification (This position is affiliated with Council 94) Step 1 starts at $13.56 per hour. Upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period, a step increase is possible. Single Benefits Eligible.

General Summary:
This position performs a variety of clerical and technical duties.  Assignments typically involve checking out and receiving materials; receiving payments; providing general information to patrons and maintaining the library in an orderly fashion.
Perform routine and repetitive duties independently with only general supervision and according to well-known practices and procedures.  Performs relatively more complex assignments and specialized functions under close and frequent supervision.  Responsibility for accuracy and courtesy is important to build and preserve Library patron relationships.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

      •  Check out to patron and receive Library print and non-print materials
      •  Calculate and collect funds due from the public

      •  Record receipt of returned materials and reintroduce materials into circulation system
      •  Process new and replacement patron cards

      •  Creates and updates patron records regarding expiration dates, fines, etc.

      •  Provide general information to the public pertaining to library services and programs

      •  Assist in processing of new materials

      •  Enforce library rules

      •  As scheduled, open or close the library, following established procedures

      •  Maintain library in a neat and orderly fashion

Additional Job Duties:
Assists and instructs patrons in the use of computer software and peripherals, including on-line databases, internet resources, and accessing our wireless network and the OPAC. Performs other job-related duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to provide courteous public service and to present clear explanations of established policies and procedures.  Knowledge of computerized library systems, basic office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, scanners and fax machines.

Education, Experience, and Training:
High school diploma or GED. Demonstrated customer service experience. Prior library experience preferred. Must have excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
