The Office of the Town Clerk provides a wide variety of functions and services to Town residents, taxpayers and the many regular and occasional visitors to Block Island. The duties and responsibilities of this office are defined by the RI State Constitution, RI General Laws, RI Department of Health / Division of Vital Statistics, Town Charter and local Town ordinances. Primary responsibilities and functions include:

- Clerk to the Town Council, advertising Council meeting schedules and agenda, preparing and maintaining permanent records of all meetings, certifying by signature all official Town Council actions, and maintaining all Town Ordinances enacted by Town Council;  use the link below to access Town Council agendas and minutes as well as other Town documents:

- Clerk to the Council in its role as Board of License Commissioners, administering processes for application, review and issuance of local licenses

- Recorder of Land Evidence deeds and other instruments

- Recorder of Vital Records, including birth, marriage and death certificates and issuance of marriage licenses

- Ex-officio Clerk to the Board of Canvassers, administering processes for voter registration and elections

- Custodian of the Town Seal and all official Town documents and records

- Clerk to the Probate Court, administering Court processes

The Office of the Town Clerk is generally open Monday through Friday, 9:00am until 3:00pm.  Town Hall is closed on all federal holidays, the day after Thanksgiving and the second Monday in August, which is a Rhode Island holiday.
